Welcome to my website where I am excited to share about my work. I earned a B.A. in English, M.A. in Library Science, and an M.Ed in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Missouri. I also earned a Ph.D. from Florida State University in 2009 in Educational Foundations from the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and majored in Sociocultural and International Development Education Studies, which was interdisciplinary and covered topics in policy studies, educational leadership, organizational theory, sociology of education, philosophies of teaching and learning, international education, multicultural education, and quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
My research and teaching is guided by having a thoughtful understanding of contemporary needs and issues influencing secondary education, curriculum, and pedagogy. My main area of focus is intercultural understanding, which emphasizes the importance of learning and valuing one’s own culture and that of others; understanding that culture and language are changing; and developing the skills needed to be responsible local and global citizens working cooperatively with others in an increasingly interconnected and diversifying world.
